Somnics Inc., the medical equipment specialist in sleep breathing disorders, debuted its VITAL Ventilator to medical professionals at MEDICA 2021 in Messe Düsseldorf.
Somnics signed the agreement with NASA’s JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) in the second half of 2020 for the manufacturing of VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally) in Taiwan. Somnics is NASA/JPL’s only licensed manufacturer of the VITAL Ventilator in the Greater China area. VITAL, with the number of its components is only one-seventh of traditional ventilators, can be produced quickly, and is easy-to-maintain. VITAL is designed to alleviate undersupply of traditional ventilators experienced at medical institutions during the pandemic as the number of COVID-19 patients surged throughout the world.
In the early summer of 2021, the COVID-19 spread worsened in Taiwan, with daily infections surging and the number of severe cases rising. Medical resources, negative pressure wards, medical personnel and ventilators were strained and the medical system faced an unprecedented challenge. At this juncture, Somnics decided to allocate resources to the manufacturing of VITAL Ventilators. Somnics’ VITAL team leveraged the strengths of Taiwan by integrating the technology prowess and supply chain flexibility in the ICT industry and ensured both efficiency and quality within a tight schedule. The development of the Somnics VITAL was completed within a short period of three months as an immediate contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
Somnics holds the patents for negative pressure apnea treatment in multiple countries and has been dedicated to the R&D, design, manufacturing of the iNAP sleep therapy system. The company has a robust quality management system, comprehensive knowledge and experience in medical equipment. With the extensive capability in the production of breathing therapy devices, Somnics can stand at the forefront of anti-COVID efforts. They hope to assist in COVID-19 treatment by manufacturing and supplying VITAL Ventilators for regions in urgent need.
In the first quarter of 2021, Somnics, Inc. also started to offer feasible customization solutions in the development and manufacturing of medical equipment in support of customers’ needs for innovation. Somnics hope to present their ever-expanding service menu to more medical professionals globally at the annual MEDICA in Germany.
